Who Should Be A Missionary?
When people hear the word “missionary,” they may imagine a white person sent to a far away land. The West has been a major mission force, but in the 21st century that has changed. There are now more non-Western missionaries than Western! The face of missions is no longer white, but many shades of brown. It is time for the church in Africa to send our own missionaries!
Missionaries are simple people who go long-term and live among a people who have never heard the gospel before. These men and women of God leave their homes and their own culture and relocate their families to live among another tribe. They might learn a foreign language, eat strange food, and adapt to a new culture. They preach the gospel, make disciples, and plant churches among the unreached tribe.
